The Epilepsy Awareness Initiative (EAI)
The Anita Kaufmann Foundation spearheaded the collaborative partnership of every major epilepsy organization in the tri-state metropolitan area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The objective of this unique partnership is to develop and disseminate positive messages about people with epilepsy that will result in meaningful changes in attitude by the general public.

The Medical Advisor of the group is Dr. Blanca Vazquez of the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.

The Project Director for the group is Debra Josephs, Executive Director, The Anita Kaufmann Foundation.

One of the programs spearheaded by EAI was to help the Metropolitan Transit Authority of New York City develop seizure first aid material. They distributed the material to all of their 50,000 employees via payroll inserts. Wes Autrey (known as the Subway Hero for rescuing a person having a seizure from the subway tracks) assisted in this project.

Epilepsy Life Links
The Foundation works closely with Epilepsy Life Links to disseminate the Fifth Grade Thinking About Epilepsy program as well as promote Purple Day for epilepsy awareness.

Epilepsy Therapy Development Project
The Foundation gave a grant for the development of the PBS documentary on epilepsy.


Epilepsy Resource Connection, Wichita, Kansas
The Foundation was one of the sponsors of the 2007 Brain Storm Conference: "Bringing Epilepsy Stigma Out of the Shadows"


The Epilepsy Center in Corona, California
The Foundation was one of the sponsors of the "Epilepsy Empower Conference 2008"


Epilepsy Support Centre, London, Ontario, Canada
The Foundation assisted in the funding of a groundbreaking program designed to educate fifth graders not to fear epilepsy. We are the exclusive U.S. licensee and distributor of this program. The Foundation’s ultimate goal is to educate all fifth graders to recognize, treat and understand seizures and epilepsy.


Bounce Out the Stigma – A Basketball Camp Founded and Led by Mighty Mike Simmel
The Foundation provided scholarships for children with epilepsy to attend this summer camp for children with epilepsy and other disorders.


The Center for Seizure & Epilepsy Education in British Columbia
The Foundation arranged for the airing of Public Service Announcements about seizure first aid and epilepsy.


Kings Super Markets
The Foundation partners with Kings Super Markets, a leading grocery chain of 26 stores throughout New Jersey and Long Island, to implement community outreach about epilepsy and seizure first aid. Kings Super Markets has been an active partner in spreading epilepsy awareness every November for National Epilepsy Awareness Month.


Matthew Stevens, publisher of Chocolatier, Pastry Art & Design and Frozen Desserts Magazine
The Foundation partners with Mr. Stevens in the food industry by introducing seizure training for restaurant employees.


EYAL – The Israeli Epilepsy Association
The Foundation provides a grant to EYAL to provide epilepsy education in schools, daycare centers, hospitals, nursing homes and government offices throughout Israel.
